About Organic Architecture
Organic architecture is a philosophy more than an a style. Organic architecture is not to be confused with biomimicry. It does not seek to emulate or copy nature in design literally, but rather to just learn from it, take from its fundamental principles and infuse them into an organic solution, one that is centered around its occupants.
The occupants and user experience is a central theme of organic design and its seeks to optimize this thru functional yet beautifully balanced design that enhances the user's experience in a way that sustains, supports, and enhances the quality of living.
-
Organic design seeks to satisfy the needs of the human psychology
-
Organic architecture harmonizes with and connects it's occupants to nature.
-
It unfolds from a seed, a thought, an intention or idea as it evolves into full manifestation.
-
As does nature grow from a seed, a building should grow from the site: from the inside out, shaped by the forces that surround it.
-
As does nature grow and expand towards the light of the sun, so does organic architecture seek to embrace natural energies.
-
Organic architecture is focused on the quality of life. Quality of space over quantity.
-
Organic space has a living & vibrant spiritual quality.
David Pearson, a prominent practitioner of organic architecture states in the Gaia Charter:
"Let the design:
be inspired by nature and be sustainable, healthy, conserving, and diverse.
unfold, like an organism, from the seed within.
exist in the "continuous present" and "begin again and again".
follow the flows and be flexible and adaptable.
satisfy social, physical, and spiritual needs.
grow out of the site" and be unique.
celebrate the spirit of youth, play and surprise.
express the rhythm of music and the power of dance."
"A building should appear to grow easily from its site and be shaped to harmonize with its surroundings if Nature is manifest there.
